Painting for a Purpose

Three years ago I was asked to participate in an event titled "Painting for a Purpose", a fund raising effort in Portland Maine looking to raise money for grants to distribute to local schools art programs. I was inspired by their efforts and couldn't resit. Tina Edwards and Tracy Floyd, as well as many others, got the ball rolling and before long their was a room full of local artists eager to help. I was pleasantly surprised and excited to find out the theme was lobster boats with each artist given a blank wooden boat roughly 2 feet long. "Paint it anyway you want...",...

Summer in Maine

Summer in Maine, it's almost illegal to enjoy in all it's entirety, but as a resident I'm happy to be summoned to the coast, mountains or lakes at any time. Over the past three months I've been cruising along doing what I do, festivals, creating, producing and distributing my product to the many stores carrying my work. Starting at The Old Port Festival the weather couldn't have been sweeter! Faith Webster, of Cape Neddick, sent me an image of the finished hooked rug "Spring Lobster" she has been working on all Winter, and it's stunning, just stunning.  Faith contacted me last Summer about creating a large format version and I couldn't resit, "A hooked lobster?", sure I said without hesitation. Faith's father was...

LIAA goes Back to School

THORNTON ACADEMY The time had come, I was headed back to school and as much as I was looking forward to my return trip to Waterboro Elementary, first came a visit to Mrs. Brewer's seventh grade class at Thornton Academy in Saco. I have to admit, I was a tad nervous. My previous interactions with a large group of students was wonderful, but they were 2nd and 3rd graders, easy to amuse.  As the students poured into the modern facility I immediately flash backed to seventh grade, these "kids" were young adults, impressionable and astute, yet chill and comfortable. The topic they were exploring was Colonization and...

Lights, Camera, Action! WMTW visits LIAA Studios!

art holidays lobster lobsters made in maine Maine

A couple of weeks before Christmas Steve Minich contacted me about doing a story for WMTW-TV Channel 8 here in Maine. Without hesitation I confirmed and after a couple delays we were able to connect and film. I was extremely nervous yet surprisingly calm. My studio was decorated with all my favorite Maine Made items in hopes they would grab a little free air time as well, my process was layed out and my work everywhere.  My wife even had our friend watch our very vocal Pomeraninan/Papillon Teddy so he didn't steal my thunder. As I watched Steve and his cameraman Tim...
